Heated bed installation questions

Postby cacb » 2015-Apr-Sat-18-Apr

Hi, I am trying to determine whether I have all required items to install the heated bed. It is not exactly crystal clear...

For starters, I have Simple Metal with Printrboard Rev F5, printer received 1st of April. I have also a replacement power supply, not using the original laptop supply anymore. I am checking the parts in the kit I have received for installing the heated bed, and comparing with these instructions
http://help.printrbot.com/Guide/Install ... pgrade/147

What I got seems to differ somewhat from the instructions. Main thing is to check if anything vital is missing, plus I have a couple of questions regarding installation. The upgrade kit I received contains (see also photo at bottom):

- One aluminium bed
- One Printrbot heat plate, with a single pair of red/black wires, bare ends (no connector)
- One insulation foil, same size as heat plate
- One large piece of kapton, about same size as heat plate
- One small piece of Kapton 50x50mm
- Two black metal "wings" , one with 2 slots, one with 2 holes
- A bag containiing
* black/white thermistor cable
* One small delrin x-axis belt guide
* 2 long/thin delrin pieces about 1mm thick (not mentioned in above instructions)
* 2 shorter delrin pieces, about 1mm thick (not mentioned in above instructions)
* 6 black 10mm screw, presumably M3
* 4 steel ~5mm screws, presumably M3
* some zip-ties
* Allen wrenches

NOT included
- Replacement delrin bar with groove for left side of X axis (step 5)
- Red/black thermistor extension cable (step 17)

Regarding the missing replacement delrin bar with groove in the upgrade kit, it looks like a non-problem as it appears that both of the existing delrin bars I have with the standard bed already have these grooves. However, what about the missing red/black thermistor extension cable (step 17), is that going to be a problem? I have not measured the cable length, it is still in its bag.

I found this description also
http://help.printrbot.com/Guide/Install ... lation/193
This explains the thin delrin pieces. I would suggest the instructions are updated into one....

Would it be simpler/better to route the wires from the heated bed under the base to the board, rather than trying to fit them near the X-pulley as described in step 12?

Any other important issue I have not discovered? Do I have all I need?

Your heater bed wires with bare ends are compatible with the Rev F board. If you have a Rev D board, then you will need a connector (or you can solder the wires to the pins on the board; see this post: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2789#p47448)

Printrbot Plus operational January 2013
Brass threaded rods (5/16" X 18) & nuts for Z axis
GT2 belts & pulleys
Cable chain to reduce probability of fatigue failure in wires
E3D V5 Hot End, 0.4mm nozzle, also 0.8 and 0.25 in use occasionally
PB fan mount + 40mm fan -- using printed mount adapter, not the E3D supplied fan
Injection molded extruder gears
Optical Z "endstop" (custom designed and built)
Have used many pounds of T-Glase filament. Now also doing some work with Ninjaflex SemiFlex
