Tip for helping bed stay stable

I bought the Printrbot bed stabalizer kit during the 12 day sale. I haven't installed it yet, but in watching the video of Brook putting it on one of the machines from the bot farm I picked up an interesting tip. He had wedged 3mm filament between the linear bearings and the zip ties to make them tight. He took them out to prepare for the kit install, but since I am not tearing mine up right away, I did the filament wedge trick and it is humming away. Not sure if I can see the difference but it is easy to do. People ask me all the time what I make the most of and I always say "scraps"

Actually, after taking a piece off and looking at it, I think it has reduced a little of my "z" stagger giving me a smoother edge perpendicular to the layers. Like I say, it can't hurt and it takes 30 seconds.

These are .2mm layer, 0.35mm head, with belt tensioners and the shims in the bearings as described.

I still use zip-ties to hold my y-axis bearings (bed bearings) in place, but I drizzled the bearings in elmer's wood glue after installation / alignment to "lock" them in place. There is a big wedge of glue between the metal and the wood on each side of each bearing. They can be broken free if a need arises, but for now they're semi-permanently installed and vibration free.

I know this thread is a bit old but is anybody else using zip tie guns to install these? I bought some for work and borrow those when I need them. You can pick them up fairly cheap ($10-20) if you take some time to look. Once you see how well they work, you will never try to get a zip tie tight with a pair of pliers again.

I have one, but didn't use it. I find that for the tightest zip-tie I do better w/pliers. My zip tie gun cuts too early for my tastes.

There should be a tension gauge somewhere on the zip tie gun that will adjust when it cuts. Increase the tension level and it will get the zip tie tighter before cutting.
