I had looked at using a belt for the Z, but had a couple concerns so I am interested in how it performs for you.

Concerns:
Holding Z height with power off
Z resolution (steps/mm), is it small enough
Is there some mechanical advantage on the belt? If not, how is the layer height consistency?

hi john
'i'm a big fan of your work)
great to have you on my post

here is the edrawing file
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mc1elttzq03nb ... 1.exe?dl=0

you will clearly see the counterweight, so the z height won't fall down if power is turn off
i think that belt will remove any z wooble and should improve layer definition
according to joseph calculator , belt definition is 12.5 micron and as i have build a double resolution, i can theorically have 6.25 micron

i'm currently printing all part to build it and will report every printing test in a couple of days

first test!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tSjo90_Pxg

x and z movement from 500 to 20000mm/min
no counterweight for the moment, need to find something small and heavy enough!

z belt is definitvely the way to go
will clean the wiring and test some printing soon
