Not Really New Here...

Postby novice » 2018-Jan-Sat-19-Jan

As I'm the 3D printing hobbyist formally know as IB3D who had recent SSD failure and either did not update the email profile or write the correct recovery info down. So this is where we're at today, life goes on and so shall I, just with a lot less data.

Almost went with ForgetfulOldMan as a username, but then I'd never be able to remember something that long.

Sorry to hear about the crash of your data. Welcome back. (Does the forum not give you an option to recover or reset your password?)

Yes, however it did not want to accept my username/email combination.

For future reference, look into Keepersecurity.com for managing passwords. They can be stored securely in the cloud so you will have access to them even if your computer totally crashes, as long as you remember just one master password. The application syncs across all your desktop and mobile computing platforms. (This is not a paid ad; I don't benefit in any way if you chose to use them.)

Appreciate that, believe most of the problem aside from the SSD crash was changing all my email addresses last fall and failing to update everywhere. Keep a small black book in the safe with back-up user information; while dusting cobwebs from it today I sensed there could be issues.

I've used LastPass for many years, and to make it more complicated use a unique sneakemail.com address for every web site registration (adding a reminder note for that site's password in it's comments). As another forgetful old guy there's still the issue of remembering the LassPass Password... I also have a WD networked MyBook with it's automatic continuous backup, but W10 has been known to get confused with it's multiple protected shares and stop connecting to the password protected backup share. I also have an SSD and a spinny drive in this machine. Oddly the spinner, not the SSD died and was eventually replaced under warranty - the replacement will become a mirrored backup when I finally get around to digging the PC out from under the desk, pull off the covers, blow out the dust bunnies, find another SATA cable, and stuff it in one of the many free slots in this HAF case. There's a 10 year old drive in the same box, a predecessor's system drive, that is still alive every time I check it.

Perhaps our fearless Plextorian leader can help with the email address and/or password recovery
