Printrbot Simple Metal ... died??

Postby dlw » 2016-Oct-Mon-19-Oct

No changes have been made since last used. Worked fine. Successful print.
Today, W10 doesn't list it in devices. Cura can not connect to it.
Red light on sensor blinks with power cable plugged in or removed.
Power cord is plugged in wall. USB cable is plugged in printer and PC.

Repeat: no changes were made in W10 or Cura.

Any ideas about what happened.

The easiest thing to check for lost USB connectivity is the cable. Perhaps it's passing power but not data, so try another, preferably known good, cable. While you're changing it take a look at the usb connector on your Printrbot to make sure it's still completely attached to the board.

Tried 3 data cables, no go. The printer is at a distance. Need to use a USB extension. Tried 2 of these, no go.
USB connector on circuit board appears OK. No movement in any direction. Looks good.
Normally, when connecting the USB cable, the PC emits a tone. Does not do this any longer.
The PC is not recognizing the printer. No listing for printer in devices.
Printrbot just returned it from service about a month or so ago.

Is there any way to reinstall firmware?

Before trying to reflash contact Printrbot's service, especially since they just had it. It's possible the board is toast

Stupid question... is the green light on the board lit up? It doesn't tell you much - only that there is 5V on the board, but that's better than no information.

He said the probe lights up. Is that 12 or 5 V?

RetireeJay; I've always heard there is no such thing as a stupid question. I see you disagree.

The green light on the board does light up.
