Printrbot Jr Heated Bed Upgrade?

Postby mothy » 2014-Jan-Sat-14-Jan

I noticed that printrbot.com no longer carries the heated bed kit for the Jr. Does anyone have one for sale or have an alternate method of adding a heated bed to this so I can start enjoying the benefits?

I've seen some on eBay with the same size requirements of the Jr. I would look there if you can't get one through pb

I have no idea how to hook up the heated beds, is there a tutorial on doing this for the printrbot JR? I'd rather just buy the kit, but there are a couple vendors selling it for $99 now when printrbot sold it for $65 just a month ago

Avanti circuits on ebay sells the pcb heater but you'll have to do some soldering/wiring.

just search for 4x5 heated pcb

This was for the original:

i used a 1/8" aluminum plate for my print plate but you can use whatever you want.

I was looking for the same thing. After some research it's actually better to get the 4.5x6 in heat bed from eBay. It maintains the same print volume and is cheaper. But it will take some setup. For example you can't run a heated bed on just the laptop power supply. You would need the atx powery supply. Also, you would need to add a thermistor to the heated bed. The eBay seller does have the option to pre solder the thermistor. But I would rather tinker my way to a heated bed, then give up valuable print volume.

Cool, yea well i'm still looking for a viable option that requires minimal tinkering. Does anyone know of a tutorial or links to these heated beds on ebay and the appropriate thermistor? I have an ATX power supply already. Also is there a good source for the laser printed "JR" bed upgrade, or possibly a STL file that i can use to laser print my own?

For the ebay heated bed. I havent found any videos or tutorials for getting this up and running. What you will do is purchase the the pre wire option, the thermistor and the heated bed at the same time. Contact the seller to let him know that you purchased the pre wire option and boom, pre wired PCB heated bed ready to be plug and played. You just need to find the right spots on the board to plug in to, and a firmware upgrade might come in handy as well.
As for the laser cut parts, check the PB website, on there you can find all of the design files for the laser cut wooden parts for the printrs but i am not sure if you can find the heat bed laser cut files.
