The Jonbot Plus 2!

Postby orangefurball » 2016-Nov-Tue-00-Nov

Hey all!

I have been working on this is my free time for a while and am happy to have something to actually post about it!

The Jonbot, for those of you who don't know, was the community name given to the Fully Printable Simple 1405 designed by Jon Lawrence. I then decided to modify/design/redesign the components to create the Jonbot Plus.

Well, I wanted to continue the Jonbot "line" and make something bigger, easier to put together, and [hopefully] better! Enter the Jonbot Plus 2

Notable improvements;

No more linear rods and bearings. They took up a lot of design space and aren't my favorite parts to use on larger builds. The JBP2 uses linear rails mounted on 20mm aluminum extrusions.

Easier to put together. The JBP2 should be much easier to put together and maintain as parts break down.

Smaller/less plastic parts. A lot of plastic and a lot of print time was required for the original JBP. I wanted to cut down on as much of that as I could. The JBP2 only has 10 printed parts so far, and that list will hopefully stay under 15.

Easier to modify build volume. With the original JBP, the build volume was designed to be 200mm x 200mm, and because of most of the parts being printed, modifying that build volume was difficult. With the JBP2, the only modifications required are longer rails and extrusions.

That's most of the main improvements. I am hoping to finish the design of the printer by the new year and have one built by January to replace my finicky BQ Prusa i3. I still have to finish the Y axis (bed) and the electronics mounting/wiring. The build volume on mine will be 350mm cubed.

I will attach the current Sketchup file for anyone that wants to take a closer look. Any feature requests or questions can be posted here!

I also want to thank KD6HQfor a ton of info on his original JBP journey and build, along with the inspiration to work on the Jonbot Plus 2!

Thanks everyon!

The Jonbot is still chugging along now using a E3D Lithe 6 hot end and a 2 N 1 adapter.
I have just ordered a Diamond hot end and a Rumba controller.
I have not decided yet if I will add it to the JonBot or build another printer.

Here is one possible source for the extruded 20 x 20mm Aluminum.
I ordered the "HFS5-2020"

A lot cheaper than E-bay but I have not used any yet. I did order some yesterday (22nd) but it will not be here for about a week (UPS ground).

Glad to hear it :) Misumi is where I got all of the extrusions for the Thingybot and the two CoreXY machines I have. They are very good!

I don't see the Sketchup file or did I just miss it?

I would like to know more about your linear rail selection when you have the time.

thanks
