pop pop boat

Postby MartyS » 2015-Aug-Tue-00-Aug

After seeing a pop pop boat on thingiverse I needed to at least try and design one myself.

This is what I've come up with so far, going to see if I can simply pressure fit 2 rings together to hold the aluminum foil.
Question will be are the tubes going to be air tight enough for it to work? And of course will it work printed in PLA?

I'm assuming that post is a "like", considering all the smiles, but I'm not going to try and run the text through a translator.

Thought I posted this earlier but I guess it never showed up, weird.

I printed partial pieces to run some tests.

The pressure ring worked to make a water tight seal with the aluminum foil when cold, but PLA softens too much at boiling temperature so it started leaking.

So I'll have to do some redesign and use silicon glue. Got some other ideas also, going to drop down to the standard 2 tube design after doing a little more research, most of the boilers with more than 2 use more than just a tea candle so they must need more heat. Good news is my printed tubes seem to be air tight enough, so they should work.

The post was from a known spam IP in Cambodia, advertising an online casino. Since I don't know Thai I can't x out the business name, so I banned the spammer and removed the offending content from Tim's post (sorry...).

This might be our first spam from Cambodia; we're gaining world attention!

Thai and Khmer (Cambodia) are totally different languages, not even in the same groups of languages. Being fluent in Thai would be of no assistance....

Google translate identified the language as Thai (I'll take it's word for that...), but the posting IP was in Cambodia per a whois. Stopforumspam.com had multiple complaints on spam originating from that IP address and also identified it as Cambodian.

Thai from Cambodia isn't really any stranger than English language spam originating in Pakistan or India, which are pretty common. Although it is kinda strange that my oldest was in both Cambodia and Thailand earlier this year :)
