My first few prints

Postby Motrius » 2014-Sep-Mon-13-Sep

Here are my first several prints that I did while testing things out and calibrating the printer. I bought the printer 2nd hand from someone who didn't need it anymore. He made a mess of things when he assembled the printer, I had to fix a bunch of things and some parts were even missing. It's the Printrbot Simple 2013 v3.

The cubes were printed at .3mm layer height.

I was having trouble with the extruder feeding the filament due a spring being missing, had to improvise with a spring I had. The vase and cats are with the spring in place. The cats were printed at .2mm layer height, which I was impressed by. I may try a print at .1mm just to see how it comes out.

Nice job. I've seen lots of people struggle when they were sent a fully functional pre built printer. I'm impressed that you got these prints after trying to fix someone else's mistakes/issues. Great work. If you ever need any help, I'm always available. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I read a lot before I even made my first print, especially the articles on calibration. I need to get more filament soon, just trying to decide on what colour. Also thanks for the offer of help. I know I'll need it in future. Do you think it is possible to print .1mm layer height with a Simple 2013? Any tips on trying that?

It or close to it is possible. You'll need a lot smaller nozzle and your overall print times will be way higher. I recently did a review of several different filaments on my site if you would like to see them. I'm in the midst of testing out Printrbot's new filament right now. I'm quite impressed so far. Here's my first print with pbs new filament.

So tried printing at .1mm for a filament guide for my printer. It did mostly ok, better than I expected really. Some layers seem to ooze out, suggesting that I need to lower the temps when at .1mm.
