Forum Dates incorrect ** FIXED **

Postby praedor » 2014-Mar-Sun-00-Mar

Hi Guys,

Noob here, this is my first post. I noticed that the DATE NOW on the Board Index Page says Sunday 5th March 2014, this is Sunday 9th March 2014 05:44 AM here in the UK, I know there are some time differences across the globe, but 4 days....LOL .

It gets worse though, apparently I can see posts that will be made several weeks from now, for example, there will be a post on Thursday 22nd March 2014 by MichaelD33 about infilling outside perimeters.

Has my laptop developed a spooky power or is there a problem with the forum and dates ?

PS I've checked my laptop and a couple of other forums I frequent, the problem only seems to be happening on this forum.

It's not just you. I tried changing my time zone in my profile and it doesn't work either.

Just noticed, that although we posted minutes apart, my post is dated 2014-Mar-Sun-05-Mar, yours appears on my system as 2014-Mar-Sun-06-Mar, system seems to like Sundays LOL.

Ooooops - Sorry folks, seems that you have to set correct info in User Control Panel/Board Preferences/My Date Format, change it from custom to one of the offered options.

Head Slap <<< Should have searched the forum before posting.

just saw this.

I wasn't here yesterday... so I figured its just an error that applies to the last post, and also maybe based on old cookies or something?
logged in.

got that..okay..4 days ago..I dont' remember, changed date settings..awww july1st..sounds about right...

could be intentional to make forums look "livelier"..or its just bad cookies being updated without being logged in or something I dunno.

Nothing to do with cookies; the forum uses your user profile for the date conversion. Probably just some odd computer weirdity, or alpha particle radiation :)

There is still something wrong, even if it was using a fixed timezone when logged out, the date/time would atmax be only 24hours out, but i have seen it with dates that are wrong by up to a week. Somewhere there is a missing default timezone setting.

There's something wrong with the default date format for new users. The reply above mine was dated "2014-Jul-Sat-03-Jul". The previous one was "2014-Jul-Sat-01-Jul". July 3 was a Thursday and July 1 was a Tuesday, which makes me think it's emitting a day of the week and displaying it as the month or something like that.

The default in the user profile settings is set to Custom 'Y-M-D-H-M', which I guess isn't doing what you'd expect.

Is this a global problem or did I happen to create my account at a time when the global defaults were wrong?

Seems to have been an issue for quite a while judging from posts above. Is there something I can do to fix it my end now, or is it an incorrect server-side setting? It makes searches challenging. :?

The default for the profiles is really bad. Y-M-D-H-M means Year Month Date Hour Month.

A much better setting that I use is Y-M-d H:m

Easy to change - User Control Panel, then Board Preferences tab, then use the pull down list. Your best setting is somebody else's worst setting...

Its not really fixrd, if you come to the board and are not logged in, then the dates are still all screwed, there is sonething in the board setup that is completly wrong. I tend to browse the board not logged in because for some reason android chrone does not remember the im logged in cookie. I only sign in if i want to say something.

Having the FIXED on the subjectline is misleading

I second that. If you are logged in and understand how to correct it (for yourself only), you can get by ok. If you are not logged in, there is no way to know what the new posts are or even when any post was written, as the dates are unreadable.

I retract it, then. I use lastpass and virtually never look at the board when not logged in. Even on android/chrome they always seem to be where I left them. Perhaps they work differently in the moose time zone.

I found an old reference to changing the default date format in the ACP half way down this topic.
