Printed reproducer for old Victrola

Just for fun I tried designing and printing a reproducer for my Victrola, worked much better than I thought it would.

That's amazing! Is there a metal needle that follows the groove in the record? Did you design this yourself or find the design somewhere?

I designed it myself in FreeCAD.

I used one of the regular metal needles used in the normal reproducer (I've got lots of them), designed a hole in the end of the arm and to make the needle tight I simply heated it and pushed it in, so it melted it's way into the hole and once cooled it is tight in there.

Printed in with PETG. It's in 2 halves, the diaphragm is .5 mm thick, the pivot point for the arm is .8 mm and I cut some of it away with a hobby blade to make it thinner.

It is about a centimeter larger in diameter than the normal reproducer.

I was expecting it to make sound, you can get sound with a dixie cup and a needle, but was amazed how clear and loud the sound was from this thing.

So the arm is printed as a "bridge" at the same time as the diaphragm and the rim all as one unit?
I looked at an online description of how to rebuild an original, and it had an unbelievable number of parts: mica diaphragm, gaskets, assembly screws, adjusting screws, even adjusting springs! And yours has two parts! Bravo! :geek:

Yes, there were a few lose strands that I had to trim off but overall for such a long bridge the PETG did well.

Diaphragm half slides into the half that connects to the swing arm. I put a little CA glue on it but probably didn't need to because it was a pretty tight fit.

Oh, and the original on my Victrola doesn't have mica, it's a metal foil diaphragm, but it does have a lot of parts, including very tiny ball bearings that fell out a few years ago as the rubber ring holding them in decayed, found a source for the bearings but it was a pain getting them in.
