3D printed an electric guitar

Postby orangefurball » 2016-Jan-Thu-00-Jan

The latest project off of the old Jonbot Plus is this, a full size, playable electric guitar!

Here is what I wrote on Thingiverse...
After a little over a year of wanting to do this, I finally built one!

I had to rewire the insides since the pickup switch thing (I think?) was too shot to reach over to the end. The neck also didn't fit perfectly.

I reinforced it with 4 8mm smooth rod shafts from an old 3D printer and ended up attaching my whammy bar plate with some long 1/4" bolts that went through both halves and added some strength. I was surprised when the whole thing didn't crack while tuning! I didn't install a quarter inch barrel style connector but I do have one in a busted bass that I plan on installing in the second revision. For now it's just a plug connected to a few dupont connectors.

1.2mm walls and ceilings on the parts with 10% infill all around. It's all PLA held together with gel Gorilla super glue (I plan on remixing the design to have a removable pick guard using screws and a bit more room for the pups). The parts were printed on an 8x8x8 inch printer that is on my page somewhere (Called the Jonbot Plus) using a .6mm nozzle on my E3D volcano. No part cooling fan was used to make sure those layers really stuck together.

All in all a cool design that was fun to print and put together. I got to use my left over PLA too!

Pretty neat project! Here is the link to the original design http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:478982

Looks great! How about doing a fully printable acoustic next? Here's mine:

That looks awesome. I've been wanting to do an acoustic too after I finish getting printers out to my KS backers.

I ended up making a new electric guitar too, this one is all black obviously and actually wired up properly!

Nice! How does it sound? I may take a crack at one of those, although I have too many projects already -- one of which being an actual wooden electric guitar that is about 30% built. Someday I may even learn to play. :)

I'm not a musician, but to me it sounded pretty good. I can only play a few chords though!

I've always loved watching people make guitars, it's such a neat process. Post pictures when it's done!!

I am working all small crafts lately using 3D printing pens. I saw someone posted an amazing guitar, so I decided to have one.

You did a great job!

Wow, looks very realistic and so detailed! Amazing job, and it's not only designing and printing, but processing as well.
