D3D Kickstarter Dial and Quad extruder

Postby Nickies08 » 2013-Aug-Fri-13-Aug

Hey everyone, check out this new kickstarter campaign. It is a Dual or Wuad extruder that uses half the space. Looks promising.

I like the straight faced version :)

I'm glad to see someone's come up with a better mouse trap...I wonder if I can retrofit a jr with the housing.

I'm kinda thrown off by the video spending 4 times as much time talking about the cute animal faces on the extruder front (and how they want folks to vote on them,) than the technical capabilities of the extruder itself.

But I supppose they had to put something in the video without giving away all the tech.

Still.

There are several videos in their campaign info. One does a great job of explaining the technical features of the extrudes and how they work. You can find it under the "read more" section

Pretty cool concept but way too much cost wise. Several hundred follars and you have to supply your own motors, hotends and just about everything else. I kinda wonder cause im a part of Printrbots dual extruder beta and the extruders need to be the exact same height. Printrbot seals matching pairs for their kits so im wondering how thats going to work?

Thanks, that helped a lot. But am I confused, or does this design not support retraction? The video shows that the hot end selection is made by changing the stepper direction. Not sure how you'd manage retraction with that.

Maybe it works so well retraction isn't needed. (not the case with my current world even with my non-bowden extruder.)

"Reprap Squad" I agree with you on the price, $203 for a kit without certain parts is expensive. But the fully assembled and ready to go one is $273. When you compare that to the dual extruder kit at QU-BD for $249 it isn't that much more expensive ( http://store.qu-bd.com/product.php?id_product=117 ) and it takes up half the space which increases print area. When it comes to being the same height, the hotends are part of the kit and screwed right into the unit which makes them a consistent height. They are using the hotends where you screw the heater into it so that is the part what you'd supply in the kit package (example of hotend: http://store.qu-bd.com/product.php?id_product=22 Example of heater: http://store.qu-bd.com/product.php?id_product=23 ).
