Will a Makerbot-style microswitch board work w/printrboard?

Postby musk » 2017-Jun-Thu-01-Jun

I have a couple of these microswitch boards kicking around, and I'm hoping to put them to use in a homemade printer. Does anybody know if they can be used with a printrboard? Maybe even the stock firmware?

Umm... it probably will work. What is your reason for asking? Why not just buy the bare switch, which is much cheaper? When I looked at the Makerbot web site, the only thing I could see that would be an advantage for this PCB assembly is the indicator LED. Printrbot has published the Bill of Materials for their printers, and they even suggest a vendor (DigiKey) for parts like the standard switches.

The Printrboard only needs to use two leads for mechanical switches (the ones on the X and Y axes). It's only the Probe that needs power and thus needs a third lead. (The Printrboard connectors do have three leads available for those geeks who want to experiment with active devices like optical sensors, for example, but that's hardly ever done for X and Y)

Printrbot Plus operational January 2013
Brass threaded rods (5/16" X 18) & nuts for Z axis
GT2 belts & pulleys
Cable chain to reduce probability of fatigue failure in wires
E3D V5 Hot End, 0.4mm nozzle, also 0.8 and 0.25 in use occasionally
PB fan mount + 40mm fan -- using printed mount adapter, not the E3D supplied fan
Injection molded extruder gears
Optical Z "endstop" (custom designed and built)
Have used many pounds of T-Glase filament. Now also doing some work with Ninjaflex SemiFlex

Only because I already have a couple of these. Over the years I've accumulated a bunch of hotends, printrboards, motors, and aluminum extrusion so I'd like to build some of that stuff into a new printer.
