Slic3r 1.2.9

Postby coastline » 2015-Jul-Wed-13-Jul

I am using Slic3r 1.1.7 and just getting to know my way around it.

Wondering what peoples opinion of the new version was?

Any reasons not to upgrade?

I had good luck testing with 1.2.7, .8 and .9 are mostly a bug fix releases so it should be fine. The UI is different. I never let R-H do it's automagic slicing and don't know if that causes a problem if you just load .stl files and auto slice.

No reason at all not to install it, just put it in a different directory whan 1.1.7 and make a desktop link to the new directory. I used to put the various versions of slicer in the default download directory, but have recently decided that putting them under the repetier-host program file directory kept everything together.

I'm running Slic3r 1.2.9 and it's doing fine... except that for some strange reason some buttons that should be "active" sometimes appear to be grayed out or "inactive," but as far as I can tell, they do actually work when you need them to.

You need to take a bit of care with the experimental versions (a few 1.2.x versions back it was prone to frequent crashes and not very usable). The last couple releases were pretty stable, and Allesandro's released 1.2.9 as the new stable version.

However it's worth keeping an older version or two around (this is probably true of Cura and the other slicers as well). New slicer releases sometimes introduce new bugs and you might be trying to slice something where the latest and greatest reinforces the relationship between slicing and bleeding edges.
