My 1 day old printrbot isn't working anymore

Postby arnvanhoutte » 2017-Mar-Fri-13-Mar

When I start a print on Cura, I can see it starts heating up, but then it suddenly stops. After a bit of troubleshooting I tried it with a different PSU, and that one worked. However the heated bed on my Printrbot Simple Metal isn't working either. What could be the reason for this and is there a way to fix it?

Did the printrbot ship with a power supply included? I would think that they would have sent a PSU that's adequate for the printer they sent you.

It's very unusual for a power supply to be inadequate for just heating the Hot End (extruder). It that's happening to you, something seems wrong, like a power supply that's not meeting specs, or a short circuit somewhere.

On the other hand, it's fairly common for people with Heated Beds to find that they need a lot of power to keep everything running smoothly. The heated bed draws at least 3X the power required for the Hot End. So if your system works without heating the bed, but fails when you try to heat the bed, you may need a stronger PSU. Most people with Heated Beds recommend a supply capable of at least 350 watts.

A one day old bot is still under warranty. Open a service ticket on Printrbot's site. Likely you need a new power supply, and since you've already paid for one that works it's their responsibility to see you have one.
