Did the printrbot ship with a power supply included? I would think that they would have sent a PSU that's adequate for the printer they sent you.
It's very unusual for a power supply to be inadequate for just heating the Hot End (extruder). It that's happening to you, something seems wrong, like a power supply that's not meeting specs, or a short circuit somewhere.
On the other hand, it's fairly common for people with Heated Beds to find that they need a lot of power to keep everything running smoothly. The heated bed draws at least 3X the power required for the Hot End. So if your system works without heating the bed, but fails when you try to heat the bed, you may need a stronger PSU. Most people with Heated Beds recommend a supply capable of at least 350 watts.
