So what was the original model? Was it intended to look like this?

Printrbot Plus operational January 2013
Brass threaded rods (5/16" X 18) & nuts for Z axis
GT2 belts & pulleys
Cable chain to reduce probability of fatigue failure in wires
E3D V5 Hot End, 0.4mm nozzle, also 0.8 and 0.25 in use occasionally
PB fan mount + 40mm fan -- using printed mount adapter, not the E3D supplied fan
Injection molded extruder gears
Optical Z "endstop" (custom designed and built)
Have used many pounds of T-Glase filament. Now also doing some work with Ninjaflex SemiFlex
Print on glass with Scotch Craft Stick or other glue stick

Its may not be correct, but it looks very cool none the less.

This is poly-carbonate?.

The original model has been attached. It is Taulman 618 nylon

So you sliced it in vase mode... I guess you used Slic3r, although I know you prefer KISSlicer.

Anyway, I'm guessing that you purposely under-extruded, causing the "blobbiness" where the nylon comes out in increments rather than a smooth continuous stream.

BTW, that model looks pretty tall. You used an extended PB Plus height, right?

Ok so are they ripples (X-Y movement), or changes in thickness?

Another guess...
You used Slic3r in Vase mode, but you also specified a Z-lift and/or a filament retract at every "layer change" - which in vase mode occurs very frequently around the perimeter of the object.

Answer: out of spec filament. oval. 1.71-1.95mm diameter.

so imagine the possibilities: varying the shape of filament to cause different extrusion characteristics to create different textures.

Umm...
I thought that once the filament melted, it kinda didn't matter how round it was beforehand. And 1mm of oval filament with a certain cross-section has the same volume as 1mm of round filament with the same cross section. So I'm a little confused here.

I think it has to do with varying back-pressure due to varying volumes being fed at a continuous linear rate.

I was just thinking of this exact same post once plexus said oval filament.

The print looks rather beautiful as is though!

Could a similar effect be done with an eccentric extruder gear? You would only get one bulge per revolution though.
